Dancing in the Park: Process and Product

Now in its fifth season, Norte Maar’s Dance at Socrates continues to bring cutting-edge choreography to art-loving New Yorkers in the lush splendor of Socrates Park. On Monday, August 14, Nico Mars and Gleich Dances will begin their one-week residency at the park, during which they will develop and rehearse a completely original dance performance in full view of the public. Nico Brown is a dancer and choreographer whose work has been described as “minimal, formal, and irrevocably queer,” and has been showcased at Jacob’s Pillow Dance Festival, New York Live Arts, and La Mama Experimental Theater. Gleich Dances is an acclaimed New York dance company founded by Juila Gleich, whose work eschews labels in an effort to pioneer new relationships between the old and the new. Come by each afternoon throughout the week to observe their process, or just opt to see the finished product on Saturday, August 19, from 4 to 5:30 P.M.
