Free Summer Movies, Theater and Concerts in NYC

One of our favorite things about summer is how New York City completely embraces the idea of being outside – especially when it comes to free movies, concerts and theater.

Gather friends, family, a blanket and snacks for free movies in the park! Check out the schedule for the HBO Bryant Park Summer Film Festival, on Mondays starting June 22. Ghostbusters, Footloose, The Poseidon Adventure and Back to the Future are a snapshot of the calendar highlights. The NYC Parks Free Summer Movies program kicks off Friday, June 5 with a line-up of comedy, sci-fi, romance, action and other flicks to appeal to all types of film buffs.

Experience literary classics and the words of the Bard as they come to life during this year’s Shakespeare in the Park at Central Park’s Delacorte Theater. The free tradition continues with The Tempest (May 27–July 5) and Cymbeline (July 27–August 23).

Celebrating its 30th year is SummerStage where free music concerts take place throughout the five boroughs. View this year’s line-up of spectacular acts encompassing hip-hop, Americana, world-class jazz and so much more.

Be sure to mark your calendars! We hope you’ll find time to spend a few days with us this summer as you explore everything New York City’s boroughs has to offer.
