If you’re looking for a unique Halloween experience, check out Central Park Conservancy’s Halloween Parade and Pumpkin Flotilla. Located about twenty minutes from our Long Island City hotel, this October 25th event features typical Halloween staples, including live music, spooky stories, pumpkin carving demonstrations and a parade. What makes it different is what happens at dusk, when visitors take decorated jack-o-lanterns and send them out to set sail on the Harlem Meer as part of the Pumpkin Flotilla, making for a strange, delightful sight. While the event is free, it’s also BYOP (Bring Your Own Pumpkin), but even if you don’t participate, it’s worth it just to come watch the jack-o-lanterns float out onto the water, just remember to bring a camera!
