Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade

A cherished Manhattan tradition, the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade is an annual pageant of giant floats and larger-than-life-sized festivities. Based on America’s favorite television characters, trademark personalities, and superheroes, the billowing procession cascades down Central West and Columbus Circle, only after an hour or so turning onto Sixth Avenue to finish the last leg of the route. At 75th Street, on the west side of Central Park, 'morning people' can grab the ideal spot by turning up a couple of hours early. The Thanksgiving Day Parade is scheduled to lift off at 9:00 am and festivities last well into the afternoon.

Think carefully when deciding just where to park yourself for a good view. Although the parade is being congratulated for its 90th year, surpassing such a milestone hasn’t tarnished its festive image one bit. It seems the floats are changed almost every year in order to keep up with the latest trends, with each decade surpassing the previous one with larger, more impressive balloons, spanning several stories tall!
